TRANSPORTATION

Our transportation system provides a safe way for preschool children to get to school, but it requires the cooperation of parents and staff.

  • Parents and/or a designated guardian must bring the child to and take the child from the bus.
  • Please be at the bus stop 10 minutes before the pick-up and drop-off times.
  • A child 16 years old may get a Head Start child off the bus if his/her name is on the emergency form.
  • Children may not leave the bus if a designated person on the emergency list is not at the bus stop.
  • Photo identification is needed for an unknown designated adult to take a child off the bus.
  • If no one is at the bus stop, the child will be returned to the center. Parents must come and pick up the child at the center.
  • Regardless of the reason, if a child is returned to the center after being transported home by bus, the child could be suspended from the program.
  • Failure to comply with the transportation drop-off policy may jeopardize your child’s enrollment.
  • The bus is permitted to wait 1 minute for pick-up or drop-off.
  • Children must wear seat belts and safety vests on the bus . Bus aides will help the children with buckling up.
  • If you must send money into school, please place it in the locked box located on each bus.
  • Backpacks, toys, gum, food and drinks are not permitted on the bus.
  • If you need to call the transportation office for any reason, please use the following number Extension 212.
  • Emergency forms need to have at least 3 people listed who have working phone numbers.
  • The emergency form must be kept up to date. Inform your Family Support Health Advocate of any changes. Changes can be made at any time.
  • Car seats must be used when bringing infants/toddlers on the bus.
  • In case of bad weather, Head Start will follow your local school district. For other times when the program may be closed, the following radio and TV stations will announce closings and early dismissals.
