STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO ENROLLING YOUR CHILD INTO HEAD START
Children must be between 3 and 5 years of age by the kindergarten cut off date for the school district in which they reside. If you have questions, please call our office.
- Call our recruitment voicemail service at (814) 946-5247, ext. 225 and leave a message.
- Within 24 hours, a Family Support Health Advocate will return your phone call. During this time, a brief phone interview will be conducted to gather some basic information and to determine whether your child is Head Start eligible.
- An application packet will be sent to your home for completion. This packet includes the application and a health history form. A self-addressed stamped envelope will be enclosed for return mailing.
- Upon receiving the application, a Family Support Health Advocate will review your child’s application packet and call to schedule an income verification home visit within a week to 10 days. At this time, you will be informed the necessary documents that you will need to provide at the visit. (W2, pay stubs, birth certificate, and updated shot records)
- Once the income verification is completed, the Family Support Health Advocate will complete the paperwork and submit it for the selection process or current program year’s waiting list.
- If you are applying for the current school year, you will be contacted when an opening is available. If you are applying for the upcoming school year and your child has been accepted, you will receive a letter by the end of June. This letter will inform you of anything your child will need and when Family Support Health Advocate will be contacting you.
- Classes for a new school year start at the end of August or the first
week of September.
