Pre-K Counts Program FAQ's

PA Pre-K Counts prepares children for success in school. High quality Pre-kindergarten programs ensure that children begin school ready to learn. Research indicates that children who attend good pre-kindergarten programs are more likely to graduate from high school and go on to technical school or college.

Children must be at least 3 years of age by the school district’s cut-off date for kindergarten enrollment. Children who are age eligible of kindergarten cannot enroll in Pre-K Counts The family income must meet the Pre-K Counts income guidelines for 2017.

PA Pre-K Counts is FREE to families.

  • Altoona – W&J Elementary Building: Monday-Friday from 8:15AM to 2:15PM
  • Claysburg – Claysburg-Kimmel Elementary School: Monday-Friday from 8:00AM to 2:00PM
  • Williamsburg – Williamsburg Elementary School: Monday-Friday from 8:00AM to 2:00PM
  • Pre-K classes closely follow the school districts’ calendars, starting in late August and ending early in June.

No, parents must make their own transportation arrangements.

Yes, breakfast and lunch are provided for all children at no additional cost to the family. Quality pre-kindergarten prepares children for reading and math, but also for paying attention, following directions and getting along with others.
